Corporate Wellness

Corporate wellness is about more than a healthy bottom line. It is about creating and maintaining a culture of wellness within an organization…

“The achievements of an organization are the results of the combined effort of each individual.” - Vince Lombardi

With increasing pressure to perform and limited resources, it may seem counterintuitive to shift time and money away from the core directives of your organization and towards employee wellness. However, research shows that productivity and profitability are inextricably linked to the health of your employees. Not only do healthy employees miss fewer days of work, but they are also more productive on days they are there.

Why do employees have difficulty managing their health and wellness on their own time and why do corporations need to get involved? As the lines between work and life become more blurred, the concept of work-life balance becomes less attainable. Employees are often expected to be available beyond the regular workday. Roles and responsibilities are increasingly demanding more time and energy and we are struggling to make time for our personal health and wellness.

Corporate wellness is necessary to help us find our way back to ourselves.  Your organization may already be taking steps towards creating a culture of wellness by offering flextime, onsite kitchen and eating areas, subsidized fitness memberships, and cost-sharing benefits packages. However, investing in employee benefits packages is not enough if they cannot find the time to use them. Creating a culture that prioritizes health and wellness from the top down motivates employees to participate and having resources available onsite makes them easily accessible.

Current corporate culture often rewards hard work with after-work drinks, celebration cake days, team sporting events and concert tickets. Instead, why not offer rewards that foster employee wellness and in turn foster their ability to contribute meaningful work.

Corporate wellness is becoming the new normal and current and prospective employees will be looking for this as standard going forward. Leading tech companies, such as Google, have been using this as a recruitment strategy for years in order to successfully attract and retain the best talent. Rather than risk getting left behind, embrace the trend and become an industry leader for corporate wellness.

Empowering employees to take care of themselves and be at their best physically and mentally gives them the confidence and capability to preform their best, which in turn, makes for a healthy bottom line.
